Limassol Region, Omodos Village
Wine producing village of Omodos has many interesting sights. Located within close proximity of one another are the cobbled square, old stone-built houses, local wineries, a medieval wine press and the monastery of Timios Stavros (Holy Cross), with its old icons and impressive woodcarvings. There is also a museum dedicated to the National Liberation Struggle, as well as a centre for the preservation of narrow-knit lacing, and an Icon Museum. Its quaint environs are perfect for agro tourism. The village is built around the Monastery of the Holy Cross which, according to records, dates back to the arrival of Saint Helena in Cyprus (A.D.337). The Monastery is home to a piece of the Holy Rope with which Christ’s hands were tied to the Cross. Directions : Located in the Lemesos district, 42 km from Limassol town.
